"The Mummy Returns" - A Review by 'Brad' (Positive, Frequent Minor Spoilers)

Garth, I just attended the one of the first screenings of Mummy Returns. WOW! I loved it! The story follows Brandan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's characters nine years after the first Mummy took place. The have a little boy named Alex. They discover the Scorpion King's "bracelet" and take it back to London where they live. Patricia Valezquez brings her boyfriend, "The Mummy", back to life to get the bracelet and take control of the Scorpion Kings army and take over the world. All of the old characters are back from the first movie... plus a few more. This film is full of fighting and action scenes. Much more than the first film. The only flaw I found in this movie is the lack of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He starts the movie off and is gone after about five minutes. He then returns at the climax of the movie for one last fight with Arnold Vosloo and Brandan Fraser. Unfortunately when he returns... he is 100% CGI. (Very Impressive CGI I might add...but animated none the less) There is no real footage of him except for the beginning. Now to give the good people at Universal and the Director some credit the Scorpion King near the end is a giant half man... half scorpion creature! Very cool and very Ill-tempered. All the actors/actresses give outstanding performances. Patricia Valezquez has a large role in this film and is fantastic. There is a great fight scene between Patricia and Rachel. This scene is the scene you see at the beginning of each trailer. So well choreographed and acted. Also, the battles of the immense armies are amazing. You really believe that there are thousands of warriors clashing in the desert. You couldn't count the special effects in this movie. Anyone who remotely enjoyed the first movie will LOVE this one. I will leave the rest of the movie for you to learn about for yourself. Crazy little demonic trolls, walls of water, flesh eating scarab beetles, hot air balloons, 100's of scorpions, guns, fire, sand and mummies. Make sure you see this one... Enjoy!
